Why House Concerts Strike a Chord

There’s nothing I love more than the unlimited breadsticks at Olive Garden – except for throwing concerts in my living room.

Okay, perhaps openers are not my forte, but I’m telling the truth.  House concerts are on the rise.  Not only are they incredibly charming and intimate, but they also establish deep personal connections.  They introduce a more impressionable way of networking – for both the artist and the homeowner.  Ever since I’ve established my house as an open venue, I’ve received booking requests from friends of friends, and friends of friends of friends, all because of the magnetic community they wish to recreate.

Which brings me to me next point: house concerts are viral.  As previously stated, word of mouth quickly spread news about my “venue.”  Likewise, from the artist’s perspective, house concerts can create unique content, as they provide an environment where an artist has less restrictions and more artistic freedom.

House concerts are also convenient.  The fanbase is guaranteed because such events are usually not thrown unless there is a demand from a specific community.  And even if the initial demand is absent, house concerts provide a flexibility of scope.  There are no club or parking fees, drink minimums, or even curfews (well, depending on the neighborhood).

Not to mention that, as an artist, homeowners will sometimes throw in free in free room-and-board.  And as a host, what’s better than a personal VIP experience?  You may have to sacrifice your kitchen as a makeshift merch booth, but at least you will be rapid with meet-and-greet access.

However, house concerts are not something you can play by ear.  Make sure you make your event private or else you could face Homeowner’s Insurance and PRO liabilities, as well as zoning complaints.  For tips on how to ensure that your event is considered private and not public, look over House Concerts – You’re Probably Doing It Wrong.
